Behind on Your Books? Let's Fix It.
Catch-Up Bookkeeping
Whether you’re three months or three years behind, we’ll rebuild your records, reconcile every account and get your HST and tax filings current, without judgment and with a fixed quote before we start.

Overview
Catch-up bookkeeping brings overdue financial records up to date. Solstice Partners reconstructs transactions from bank and credit card statements, reconciles every account, corrects past errors, and prepares any unfiled GST/HST, payroll and corporate tax returns. Pricing starts from $175 per month of records, and many clients then move to monthly bookkeeping so they don’t fall behind again.
Falling behind is common: the business grew, a bookkeeper left, a family matter took priority, or the software never got set up properly. The longer it goes, the more it costs. Late-filing penalties and interest build, input tax credits go unclaimed, and you lose the information you need to price, hire or borrow.
You don’t need to have everything organized before you call us. Bank statements are usually enough to begin. We’ll tell you exactly what else we need, and we’ll help you get it.
What We Offer

Record Reconstruction
We rebuild your books from bank, credit card and payment-processor statements, then match receipts and invoices where they exist. Missing documents are flagged, not guessed.

Full Account Reconciliation
Every bank, credit card, loan and payout account reconciled to statement balances, month by month, so your opening position for each year is correct.

Software Clean-Up or Migration
Duplicates, miscoded transactions and broken bank rules fixed in your existing file, or a fresh start in QuickBooks Online or Xero.

Overdue GST/HST Returns
Late HST returns prepared and filed with input tax credits properly claimed. In many cases, accurate ITCs significantly reduce the balance owing.

Unfiled Tax Returns
Overdue T2 corporate returns and personal returns with business income prepared from the rebuilt books and filed in the right sequence.

CRA Correspondence Support
We can act as your authorized representative on CRA letters and demands, and assess whether a voluntary disclosure makes sense.
How Catch-Up Bookkeeping Works
- Free assessment. We review what you have (software access, statements, any CRA letters) and identify how far behind each obligation is.
- Fixed quote and plan. You receive a written, fixed-fee quote and a sequence. Anything with a CRA deadline or demand goes first.
- Rebuild and reconcile. We reconstruct and reconcile your records period by period, sending one consolidated list of questions rather than a stream of emails.
- File and resolve. Overdue HST, payroll and income tax returns are prepared, reviewed with you and filed.
- Stay current. Move straight into monthly bookkeeping at your regular rate so the backlog never rebuilds.
Signs You Need Catch-Up Bookkeeping
- You haven’t reconciled your bank accounts in more than two or three months
- Your accounting software balance doesn’t match your actual bank balance
- You’ve received a CRA letter, demand to file or notice of assessment you weren’t expecting
- GST/HST returns are overdue, or were filed as “nil” because the numbers weren’t ready
- Your corporate year-end has passed and you don’t have financial statements
- A lender, investor, landlord or grant program has asked for financials you can’t produce
- Your previous bookkeeper left and nobody is sure what was finished
Why Act Now: Penalties, Interest and Relief
The cost of waiting compounds. For income tax, the CRA’s standard late-filing penalty is 5% of the balance owing plus 1% for each full month the return is late, up to 12 months, and interest accrues daily on unpaid amounts. Separate penalties apply to late GST/HST and payroll filings.
There is also real relief available to people who come forward. Since October 1, 2025, the CRA’s Voluntary Disclosures Program offers, for qualifying unprompted disclosures, relief from penalties and 75% of the applicable interest; disclosures made after CRA contact may still receive partial relief. Eligibility depends on your circumstances, and an application must be complete and supported by records, which is exactly what catch-up bookkeeping produces. We’ll tell you honestly whether a voluntary disclosure is worth considering for your situation.

Everyone falls behind for a reason. Our job is to get you current and keep you there, not to lecture you about how it happened.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far back can you catch up my books?
As far as needed. Most catch-up engagements cover 3 to 24 months, but we regularly rebuild multiple years of records. The CRA generally requires businesses to keep records for six years, so that's often the practical outer limit for reconstruction.
How long does catch-up bookkeeping take?
It depends on the number of months, accounts and transactions, and on how quickly we receive statements and answers. A few months of records can often be completed within a couple of weeks; multi-year projects take longer. Your quote includes an estimated timeline, and urgent CRA deadlines are handled first.
What do I need to get started?
Bank and credit card statements for the period you're behind, access to your accounting software if you have one, and any letters from the CRA. Receipts and invoices help but aren't required to begin. We'll give you a specific checklist after the assessment.
How much does catch-up bookkeeping cost?
Catch-up work is quoted as a fixed fee, typically priced per month of records based on transaction volume and the number of accounts. Pricing starts from $175 per month of records. Overdue tax returns are quoted separately.
I've received a letter from the CRA. Is it too late?
Usually not. A demand to file or a notice of assessment doesn't remove your options; it makes acting quickly more important. Contact us with the letter and we'll explain what it means, what the deadline is and what we recommend. Under the current Voluntary Disclosures Program, prior CRA contact no longer automatically disqualifies you, although relief may be reduced.
Can you work with my existing QuickBooks or Xero file?
Yes. If the file is salvageable, we clean it up and reconcile it. If it's beyond repair, we'll recommend starting a new file from a verified opening balance, whichever is faster and more reliable for you.
What happens after my books are caught up?
You'll receive reconciled books, financial statements for each completed period and confirmation of every return filed. Most clients then move to our monthly bookkeeping service so they stay current.
